Abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopause

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) refers to menstrual bleeding of abnormal quantity, duration or schedule.


AUB accounts for up to one third of gyne opd patients, with around 50% of these cases occurring in perimenopausal woman(45-54 years) in whom, the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma is higher (19%) when compared to younger women(6%,35-44 years)


AUB in perimenopause is a common problem and anovulation is one important cause, the chances of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma are high, therefore ,it is mandatory to rule it out ,USG,endometrial sampling and hysteroscope are the three investigations that can aid the clinician, while LNG-IUS remains the treatment of choice in HMB.
